The Hillsboro boys cross country teams competed at the Parkway West Dale Shepherd Invitational Saturday. The boys competed in the varsity, junior varsity, and sophomore levels.
Starting off the day was the junior varsity race. Cid Gannsmann finished in 143rd place with a time of 20:24.20, which was a personal record. “I felt great, and the competition was tough,” said Gannsmann. “But I felt really good about my time.”
In the varsity boys race, Michael Wright crossed the finish line in 17:58.40, good for 89th place out of 142 runners.
Hillsboro saw its only medalist of the day in the sophomore race. Head coach Tom Gordon ran all his freshmen up in this division, so the Hawks fielded a team for this race. Sophomore Tyler Winslett placed tenth out of 163 runners. He ran an 18:20.12. “I am very proud of what he accomplished so far this late in the season,” said Gordon.
The Hawks finished in 13th place with 242 points. Other runners who figured in the scoring included Blake Patterson (19:56.71) in 62nd, Allan Mora (20:48.70) in 88th, Cade Wokurka (20:59.22) in 93rd, and Hayden Oilar (21:25.11) in 102nd.
