The Cape Central boys junior varsity basketball team broke open a close game in the third quarter to defeat Kennett at home on Friday, 58-49.
The Tigers and Indians were locked in a tight contest as the halftime score was 24-23 in favor of Cape Central. But on the strength of eight points from both Henry Brown and Cam Harris, CHS outscored Kennett 24-11 in the third quarter to take a 48-34 lead heading into the final period.
Despite being outscored by five points, the Tigers had plenty of cushion to finish with a nine point victory. Three players hit double figures as Harris led the way with 16 points. Twelve of those points came in the second half. On the other end of the spectrum, Kevin Robinson scored 11 points, all of which came in the first half. His nine points in the second quarter kept Cape Central holding that slim lead. Henry finished with ten points, and then the supporting cast of the Tigers came through. Rashard Townsend and Jacob Gary scored five points each, while Rudy Hamilton netted four points. Finishing out the scoring was Elijah Wigfall and Clayton McClard with three points each, and Maurice Boyd with one point.
Cape Central is now 7-2 on the season and will host Jackson on Tuesday. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
