The Jefferson boys junior varsity basketball team didn’t score a point until the second quarter in Friday’s game at home against Ste. Genevieve. That slow start resulted in a 61-25 loss to the Dragons.
It was tough enough that the Jays didn’t score in the first quarter. But Ste. Gen netted 19 points to take a huge lead. The Blue Jays rebounded in the second quarter, outscoring the Dragons 11-10, but after being down by 19, there would need to be a much bigger point differential than that. The two teams went into halftime with Ste. Gen leading, 29-11.
But all hope was lost in the third quarter when the Dragons exploded for 27 points, with Jefferson scoring just eight.
For the game, Sam Stokes led JHS with 12 points. Chase Politte added four, while CJ Johnson netted three. Will Breeze and Drew Breeze each finished with two points, and Jeremiah Chipps and Jess Blankenship collected one point each.
The JV squad will hit the floor again on Tuesday, January 7 at home against Kingston.
