Three Hillsboro boys cross country athletes competed Saturday at the Class 4, Sectional 1 meet at Parkway Central High School. One runner, freshman Josh Allison, took the next step to the state meet as he qualified by placing 15th at the sectional race.
“What a tough race,” exclaimed boys head coach Tom Gordon. Allison ran a 16:51.25 on the course and said he peaked at the right time. “This race was my best race this season,” he admitted after the competition. “It was a rough beginning, but I got out and stayed with the pack for the first mile. I was happy with my placing, and I’m excited for state. Everyone gave it their all and had a great season, whether they made it through or not.”
Two other runners, Josh’s twin brother Jonah Allison, and senior Michael Wright also competed for the Hawks. Jonah finished 36th with a time of 17:31.59, and Wright crossed the finish line in 17:50.85, good for 45th place.
Gordon had good things to say about both Jonah and Michael. “We are so proud of Jonah and Michael. They ran an awesome race and had a great season! It is hard to see Michael go. He gave so much to this program, and I am so proud of all that he accomplished the past four years.”
