Tuesday, the Hillsboro JV girls soccer team got a rude welcome into the Union Tournament. The Washington Blue Jays handed the Hawks a 7-0 defeat, dropping Hillsboro’s season record to 7-4-3.
The Hawks found themselves down 4-0 at halftime. “We struggled marking up, and they were very fast up the middle and down the sides,” said JV coach Tish Naeger. “We would move one way, and they would pass the other with lots of overlapping runs.”
Mackenzie Golden was in goal for the first half, while Melanie Bentley was between the pipes in the second. Naeger said she saw the team make some improvements in the second half. “We did make some adjustments during halftime, played a better second half, and had a handful of offensive opportunities,” she noted. “I like the fact that the girls kept playing. They did not lay down and give up against a very talented team. They kept on going.”
Hillsboro takes on Union tonight at 5:00 p.m.
