The Hillsboro girls cross country program made an impact at the Parkway West Dale Shepherd Invitational Saturday. Four girls came away with medals in the very competitive meet.
The Hawks had only one varsity runner in Emma Wright. The sophomore medaled by finishing in 16th place, running a 20:13.17. She was the fifth sophomore that finished the race, and was behind the top time run by a senior from Parkway West by only about 47 seconds. Wright said there’s always room for improvement. “I’m proud how I finished against all the of the competition today,” she said after the race. “I know there is still a lot of work to do. Going into next week’s race, I know I still need to work hard everyday in practice to achieve my goal of a PR.”
Hillsboro finished third in the freshman/sophomore girls race. Their team score of 105 trailed only Rockwood Summit (71) and Ladue (79).
Marissa Barton was the top finisher for the Hawks. She crossed the finish line in 22:50.13, good for 17th place. Brianna Barton was right behind in 20th, clocking in at 23:08.55. Both girls medaled in the race. Michelle Jones was the final medalist in the group, finishing in 22nd place with a time of 23:13.67. Other runners involved in the team score included Briana Langrehr in 27th with a time of 23:33.38, and Makenzi Allen in 34th place with a time of 23:50.52.
Next up for the girls is the Orchard Farm Invitational on Thursday.
