Colleen Theiss scored the game winning goal with 4:47 to go in the opening game of the Central Missouri Invitational in Camdenton on Friday. Hillsboro downed Father Tolton 3-2 to improve to 9-6 on the season.
The game winner would be Theiss’ second goal of the contest. Kenzie Baker made six saves in the one-goal victory.
Hillsboro opened the scoring inside of a minute before the first half ended when Abby Schacht found the back of the net. Bre Sebaugh got the helper, and the Hawks led 1-0 at halftime. Theiss would score her first goal almost 18 minutes into the second half. Heather Ripperger earned the assist, and the Hawks were up by two, but Father Tolton came right back two minutes later to cut the lead to 2-1.
Theiss scored her second goal late in the game as Ripperger got her second assist. Father Tolton scored with one minute to go, but Hillsboro held on for the 3-2 win.
The Hawks held a 10-8 shots on goal advantage for the game.
Hillsboro had two games scheduled for today…a match at 10 this morning against Camdenton, and a 4 p.m. match against Sikeston.
