The Hillsboro Hawks, currently with an 18-9 record, have grabbed the number one seed at this week’s upcoming district softball tournament. Along with that number one seeding comes a first round bye. The Hawks will play at Windsor High School on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against the winner of #4 Lutheran South and #5 Festus, who will play on Wednesday. The Hawks beat Festus earlier in the season, 11-3. The team did not play Lutheran South.
Ellie Bartlett and Amber Cage lead a strong Hillsboro offensive charge. Bartlett leads the team in several categories. She is hitting .465 with six home runs and 23 RBI. She has a .779 slugging percentage, and a .531 on base percentage. Meanwhile, Cage had racked up a .404 batting average with four homers and 23 RBI. She has a .638 slugging percentage. Alanah Dunphy leads the team with 25 RBI, and also has a .462 on base percentage, while Nicole Evans has pilfered nine bases this season.
In the circle, head coach Kevin Lucas has spread out the innings between Elly Eckrich and Alex Wick. Eckrich has thrown 95 innings with a 10-4 record. She has a 2.28 ERA and has struck out 113, while walking only 29. Wick has pitched just shy of 82 innings, compiling an 8-5 record. She has a 5.06 ERA. Julz Johnson has done a stellar job behind the plate catching the two with a rock solid .983 fielding percentage.
