For the third time this season on Thursday, the Cape Central girls JV basketball team had to play extra minutes in overtime. And for the third time, the Tigers fell just short, this time losing to the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders, 31-29.
December 3rd and 4th, the Tigers lost in extra time to Rockwood Summit and St. Clair. Last night, the team got a three-point buzzer beater from Da’Kauri Wooldridge to force overtime. But CHS could only manage one point in OT, while Saxony Lutheran managed three to take the win.
“We came out slow and did not get good ball movement offensively,” JV coach Ty Crowden mentioned. “Our defense pressured the ball well, but we were late helping to the ball which got us in foul trouble.”
Honestly, the Saxony Lutheran scorebook was not accurate, so individual point totals weren’t available. But Coach Crowden recapped the game’s progress. “Kendall Holloway got hot in the second quarter. She was playing with confidence, which gave us a spark going into halftime. We played hard and got a six point lead in the fourth, but we were unable to rebound and take care of the basketball, which allowed them to get back in control of the game. Da’Kauri’s three was big, and gave us another chance to get the job done. But turnovers and poor rebounding were still present in overtime, which ended up determining the game.”
The Tigers, now 13-5, will have an entire week off, getting back to action on Monday, February 3 at home against Notre Dame. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
